Betway Data Free App Download: What It Covers and Where to Get It

Betway data free lets you place pre-match and live sports bets and make your Four To Score predictions in the Betway app without using your data, according to Betway’s own offer page. This guide sets out where to get the app on Android, iPhone and Huawei, what the free part covers and what still uses your bundle, and how signing up, deposits, support and Betway’s safety tools work.

Data free is only in the Betway app

Betway’s data free offer page says the Data Free offering is only available by downloading the Betway App, and it tells you to download the app by tapping the Apple App Store or Google Play Store logo on the same page. The download section below explains where those logos actually take you.

Betway Pedia, Betway’s help library, still has a Betway Data free page that describes a separate Data Free site. It says you need a positive data balance to reach that site from the Betway homepage, while opening the Data Free address directly needs no data. The page’s “click here” line carries no link and the page gives no address, so the app is the route to use.

Betway’s data free terms say you need a valid Betway account to use the offer, that it is open to South African citizens and permanent residents aged 18 or older, and that self-excluded players cannot use it. The Pedia page calls data free a limited time offer, and the terms let Betway change or cancel it at any time without notice, including switching the service off or limiting data usage.

Directly under the app-only line, the offer page says “Standard data charges will apply.” It does not say which parts of the app that line refers to, and the balance test in the free mode section below shows you whether anything comes off.

Getting the Betway app on Android, iPhone and Huawei

Betway’s app page says real money gambling apps are not allowed in the Google Play Store, so Android users download the Betway App from Betway’s own page as an app file, called an APK.

The Google Play logo on the data free offer page does not open Google Play. In the page’s code both logos run the same script, which sends you to an appdownload.betwayafrica.com link carrying the Betway homepage, the name of Betway’s Android app and a fallback download page. When we followed that link as an iPhone, it opened an “Open in app?” page pointing at the Betway homepage. Use the Betway App page described below instead of the logo.

A search for Betway in the Google Play store from South Africa shows Betway Scores first. It is a news, scores and stats app from SportCC with more than 10 million downloads, and you cannot place a bet in it. Betway’s own sitemap has a page for Betway Scores as well, which is why the two are easy to mix up.

Betway’s app page, at betway.co.za/betway-app, sets out the download steps for each kind of phone:

Android APK from Betway. Tap the Android banner on the Betway App page and download the app file (.apk), then install it when your phone prompts you. Betway Pedia tells you to set the phone to allow installs from an external source first, and the app page says to enable Allow Unknown Sources if the install fails and that you can switch it off again once the app is installed.
Huawei AppGallery. Betway’s app page and its Pedia page tell Huawei users to open AppGallery on the phone, search for Betway, tap Install and then log in. A search on the AppGallery website from South Africa showed Betway Scores and no betting app, so check the name on the listing before you install, or use the APK from Betway’s page.
Apple App Store. The iPhone app is Betway Sports Betting & Casino, sold by Raging River Trading (Pty) Ltd. It is free, it needs iOS 13.0 or later, and it had 273,449 ratings on the South African App Store. You log in with your existing username and password.

Get the app from Betway’s own page, the App Store or Huawei AppGallery. An app file from any other site could have been changed before it reached you, and you would have no way to tell.

How the free data is paid for

Betway’s pages say only that data free works without using your data, and none of them names the technology behind it or the company that runs it.

Datafree Technologies, a South African data free platform, describes how services of this kind work: the business removes the data cost for its users, the traffic is reverse billed across all major South African networks, and a platform on it stays reachable when a user has zero airtime or data. With no network list from Betway, the balance test in the free mode section below is how you find out whether data free works on your own SIM.

What Betway data free covers

Betway’s offer page and its data free terms name three things you can do without using your data:

Pre-match betting. Bets you place on a match before it starts.
Live betting. In-play bets while the match is running.
Four To Score. Making your Four To Score predictions, which the offer page names alongside sports betting.

The terms say the Data Free offering is only available on sport, pre-match and live, and Four To Score predictions. The casino and Lucky Numbers are therefore outside it, even where Betway’s app page calls a game data saving, because using less data is not the same as using none.

Sports and betting markets in the app

The App Store listing for the Betway app names soccer, basketball, tennis, rugby, baseball, golf and cricket among its sports, with leagues such as the Premier Soccer League, the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, and markets such as Match Result (1X2), Double Chance, European Handicap and Both Teams to Score. It says you can bet on sports such as soccer, cricket, rugby and tennis from as little as R1, so an R1 pre-match bet on a PSL match placed in the app sits inside the data free offer.

Betway’s app page lists Cash Out, which lets you take a payout on a bet before it is settled, and Win Boost of up to 300% on every Multi Bet. The App Store listing adds esports, and Book-a-Bet, which lets you share a betslip with friends by WhatsApp, SMS or email. Lucky Numbers lets you bet on the results of hundreds of international lottery draws, and Betway Pedia has a guide to the UK49s Lunchtime and Teatime draws. Lucky Numbers is not named in the data free terms, so expect those bets to use your data.

The Betway casino in the app

Betway’s app page says its full casino suite is in the app, with Aviator and other quick games it calls data saving, slots, table games and live casino titles with a real dealer on classic table games and game shows. None of it is in the data free terms, so play the casino on wifi or with a bundle, and keep your data free sessions for sport and Four To Score.

Betway free mode

Free Mode is the name Hollywoodbets uses on its data free website, which tells you on screen “You are now in Free Mode”. Betway calls its offer Data Free, and none of the Betway pages uses the words free mode or describes a sign in the app that shows the free part is on.

That leaves your own balance as the way to check it on Betway. Note your data balance, open the app, place a small pre-match bet and look at the balance again. If it has not moved, the free part is working on your network, and if it has, think back to anything you opened outside sport.

Run the test on mobile data with wifi switched off. On wifi the app does not touch your bundle, so the balance tells you nothing.

Signing up and logging in

Betway Pedia gives your login details as your mobile number and password, and the app page says iPhone users log in with the username and password they already have, so there is no separate data free account.

Betway does not say whether the app opens and lets you through the login screen when your data balance is empty, so try that once on your own SIM before a day you need it.

To open a new account, Betway’s FAQ gives these steps:

Sign up. Tap Sign Up on your phone and fill in the form with your details, giving the mobile number that is linked to your mobile money wallet.
Verify your ID. Under FICA law Betway must hold a copy of your ID and your proof of residence for every customer. When your ID is not verified automatically at sign-up, you send a copy to fica@betway.co.za, and your account is switched on after Betway has checked it, which may take up to 24 business hours.
Proof of residence. Betway may ask for a recent copy later, usually when you request a withdrawal.

Deposits and banking

Betway’s FAQ gives its instant deposit methods as i-Pay and SiD bank transfers, Visa and Mastercard cards and OTT Voucher, and it also takes EFT bank transfers from FNB, ABSA, Standard Bank and Nedbank. The App Store listing adds 1voucher, Kazang, Ozow and USSD. To deposit, log in, open the My Account tab, choose Deposit Funds and pick your method.

Only some deposits stay inside data free. Betway’s data free terms say card deposits and Ozow deposits redirect you to a site that requires data, and the Pedia page says that when a deposit method needs data, you are asked to accept this before you leave the data free part. Make card or Ozow deposits while you are on wifi.

Where it still costs you

Betway’s terms keep the free part to sport and Four To Score, so plan for the rest of the app to use data. These are the parts to watch:

Getting the app. Betway’s download pages do not say the download is free, so fetch the APK or the App Store app on wifi if you can.
App updates. Betway’s pages say nothing about updates being free either, so set app updates to run on wifi.
Live streaming. Betway’s app page lists live sports streaming among the app’s features, and the data free terms do not include it, so expect watching a match to use data.
Casino games and Lucky Numbers. Neither is in the data free terms, so they use your bundle.
Card and Ozow deposits. These take you to a payment site that uses data, as the banking section above explains.

If you would rather not install anything, Hollywoodbets data free works as a website in your phone’s browser. Betway and Easybet both need their app, and Easybet’s page says no data is used for its download, while Betway’s pages say nothing about the cost of its download. Licence, safety and support

Betway South Africa runs under two licences, which its site footer sets out. Raging River Trading (Pty) Ltd is licensed and regulated by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board under bookmaker licence 10181496-012, first issued on 1 December 2016, and Eastern Dawn Sports (Pty) Ltd is licensed and regulated by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator under bookmaker licence 9-2-1-09658. The footer says both are licensed to promote Betway South Africa, and the Western Cape board’s own list of licensed bookmakers names Raging River Trading.

Betway’s app page says its contact centre is open 24/7/365, and the App Store listing names Live Chat, WhatsApp, phone calls, email, Facebook and Twitter as the ways to reach it.

Responsible gambling tools

Betway’s responsible gaming page groups its tools under BetwayPlan. You can take a cooling off break that suspends your account for a minimum of 24 hours, suspend it for at least a month, self-exclude for at least six months or close it permanently. Betway asks you to allow up to 48 hours for a self-exclusion request sent by email, and its responsible gambling team is on 0861 787 250 or responsiblegambling@betway.co.za. Self-excluded players cannot use data free.

Problems people actually hit

“The Play Store says the app is not available.” Betway says real money gambling apps are not allowed there. Download the APK from Betway’s own page or use Huawei AppGallery.
“My phone blocked the install.” Betway’s app page says to enable Allow Unknown Sources and try again, and you can switch it off once the app is installed.
“I installed Betway and still cannot bet.” You may have Betway Scores, the news, scores and stats app. Remove it and get the betting app from Betway’s own page.
“Data came off even though I only bet.” Think back to any card or Ozow deposit, stream or casino game you opened, because none of those is in the data free terms.
“My deposit is not showing.” Betway’s FAQ says to tap the Cash button at the top left of your account to refresh the balance after an instant deposit, and to email the PDF proof of payment to eftclearance@betway.co.za if it still does not show, which can take up to 48 hours.

Is Betway data free worth having

If you bet on sport from your phone and your data often runs low, Betway data free lets you place pre-match and live bets and make Four To Score predictions in the app without using your data, with bets from R1, and the iPhone app is free to download.

The offer covers sport and Four To Score only, card and Ozow deposits take you onto data, and Betway can change or end it without notice. Get the app from Betway’s page, the App Store or AppGallery while you are on wifi, and run the balance test once before you rely on the free part.

Questions people ask

Where do I actually download the Betway app?

From Betway’s own website, on the Betway App page, not from the Google Play store. That page gives the Android APK and sends iPhone users to the App Store and Huawei users to AppGallery. Do not use any other site that offers the app file.

Is there a Betway data free website?

Not one Betway gives an address for. The offer page says data free is only available through the app, and while Betway Pedia still describes a Data Free site, its link to that site is missing.
